1690 Duncan's Dreams Lamp

1690 Duncan's Dreams Lamp
Handbuilt terracotta lamp, decorated in white slip and sgraffito, depicting characters inspired by a block-printed counterpane on Duncan Grant’s bed at Charleston House, in East Sussex. Indian princesses dance with sacred cows amongst flowers, while princes on horseback canter with hunting dogs; indifferent peacocks simply, meander. Subtle impressions made with antique wood blocks pool underglaze colours in old rose and dirty ochre; stylised trees on the landscape beyond are suggested in washes of soft greens, influenced by a Mughal painting I particularly like, dated 1835.
These lamps are wired with antique-bronze fittings, Italian twist cable and bakelite-style plugs. They can be wired for the UK, the US and Europe, please specify your preference by email when ordering. The pleated lampshade in plaster pink is 100% cotton dyed, casting a soft, still glow.
Please note, I have 2 lamps wired for the UK ready for immediate dispatch and 1 lamp base ready for wiring.
