Handbuilt terracotta charger, decorated with white slip and sgraffito, glazed in coral reds and pinks, fresh greens and warm blacks. The surface design is a reworking of an 18th century Fraktur, which depicts soldiers and their maids in traditional costume. This 1690 version frames the figures with delft pattern and big overblown roses, the perennial symbol of love, to celebrate all kinds of attraction and endearment. Regardless of our sexuality, we are all bound in a natural cycle - for just as the rose, so is life.
