1690 Speak, Memory Jardinière

1690 Speak, Memory Jardinière
Handbuilt terracotta jardinière or cachepot, decorated in white slip and sgraffito, designed for Speak, Memory, a special exhibition at Casa Cabana for Milan Salone del Mobile, 2025.
The surface decoration is inspired by a memory of Chinese Imari porcelain, glazed in sooty blues, lavender greys and faded orange, with motifs in relief moulded from antique cookie and chocolate moulds; depicting a tiger, a bird, a lotus flower, a beaver and a butterfly, all of which have deep-rooted symbolic meaning evocative of good fortune and longevity in Chinese culture.
Dimensions: Height 14cm, diameter at widest point 15cm
Additional Notes: These earthenware ceramics are fired at relatively low temperatures and are not vitrified, which means they are slightly more porous than stoneware or porcelain which are fired at higher temperatures. Occasionally, if the vessel contains liquid, moisture will form a bloom on the base. Please make sure you protect precious surfaces if you intend to display these works for long periods of time containing water, or use a water tight liner. To clean, wash gently in warm soapy water by hand. Not dishwasher safe.
