1690 Dominoté Vase

1690 Dominoté Vase

£590.00

A coil built, rough hewn terracotta vase, decorated with a thin white slip and spongeware patterns, inspired by the English tradition and 18th century French Dominoté papers, a block printing technique used for endpapers, linings and early wallpapers.

There are two 1690 designs to choose from at present: a loose harlequin pattern in madder brown and a chintzy pendant-shape repeat in what I would call a clay green - both with broken, inky flowers. The tiny bud which decorates the interior reminds me of Cottage Sprig, designed by Laura Ashley in 1979. I still have a pillowcase in that sweet little print.

Additional Notes: These earthenware ceramics are fired at relatively low temperatures and are not vitrified, which means they are slightly more porous than stoneware or porcelain. Occasionally, if the vessel contains liquid, moisture will form a bloom on the base. Please make sure you protect precious surfaces if you intend to display these works for long periods of time containing water. To clean, wash gently in warm soapy water by hand. Not dishwasher safe.
