A tradition begins. Handbuilt terracotta dish, decorated with white slip and sgraffito for the Christmas table or mantle, or what you will, featuring motifs borrowed from Frakturs, an early American folk art genre most popular between the mid 18th to 19th centuries, along with specific design elements inspired by ancient ceramics from 12th century Iran. Birds sit resolutely amongst fallen winter flora, glazed in colours of peat, tawny pinks and muddy greens, with a cheery, modest line (thankfully open to interpretation) for the season.
